How can you make a difference?
The General Accounting Stream is responsible for grant creation of public partnership agreement, monthly bank reconciliations, asset maintenance, change of funding source, clearing of advances, VAT, US tax invoice and staff PAR balances including staff on reimbursable loans. We are looking for a positive individual, self-motivated and excited by the opportunity to help the mission of UNICEF. The Finance Assistant will review, park and process various transactions in ERP for the Finance Section of the GSSC, as well as provide client offices with guidance and support on how to close out cases in line with SOPs and finance policy.
Key functions, accountabilities, and related tasks:
- Review and perform the monthly reconciliation of various bank accounts of UNICEF, analyze and follow up on open outstanding items,
- Review transactional cases submitted by client offices for various accounting case types, check for validity and conformity with current rules and regulations.
- Under the guidance of senior associate, determine the appropriate action(s) based on case details.
- Ensure adherence to standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Review grant creation for posting and monitor the unapplied contributions receipt and communicate to business partners to clear on a timely basis.
- Participate in various stream projects.
- Respond to client transaction status and other inquiries.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…
- Completion of secondary education (i.e., high school diploma) is a minimum requirement. University level courses in finance, accounting or business are desirable.
- Minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience is required. (A completed BA degree from an accredited institution qualifies as 3 years’ experience and will be counted towards work experience requirements.)
- Working knowledge of accounting standards is required.
- Experience in ERP systems such as SAP and MS Office package, especially Excel is required.
- Strong focus on accuracy and process consistency is required.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving and reporting skills is required.
- Fluency in both spoken and written English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) is an asset.
- Internal applicants (holders of fixed-term, continuing contracts) from the GSSC are required to complete their Learning Paths corresponding to their current level before applying for another position. Additionally, they must attach a snapshot of the completed path to their applications. Applications that do not meet this requirement will not be considered.
